PAST COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

Hanwha Philly Shipyard has delivered 30 vessels—including container ships, product tankers, and Aframax tankers—to clients such as Matson Navigation Company, Crowley Maritime, American Shipping Company, SeaRiver Maritime, and Kinder Morgan. Since 2000, Hanwha Philly Shipyard has delivered around 50% of all large oceangoing commercial Jones Act vessels. 

3,600 TEU Container Vessels (2)

The shipyard has built two Aloha Class CV3600 containerships. The 260 meter long containerships are the largest Jones Act containerships ever constructed and are able to operate at speeds in excess of 23 knots. The new vessels also incorporate a number of ‘green ship technology’ features such as a fuel efficient hull design, dual fuel engines, and environmentally safe double hull fuel tanks and fresh water ballast systems. The new vessels are equipped with dual fuel engines that have liquefied natural gas (LNG) capability. The first vessel was delivered in 2018 and the second in 2019.

MT-50 Product Tankers (8)

The shipyard has completed a series of eight MT-50 class product tankers. The 183 m long, 50,000 deadweight vessels are designed to carry a variety and liquids from crude oil to chemicals. The vessels also incorporate a number of features that increase the fuel efficiency compared to prior tanker designs. The vessels were constructed with consideration for the use of LNG for propulsion in the future and are the first tankers to receive the ABS LNG-Ready Level 1 approval in principle. The first vessel was delivered in September 2015.

MT-115-AFRAMAX-TANKERS

MT-115 Aframax Tankers (2)

In 2011, the shipyard signed a contract with SeaRiver Maritime, Inc., Exxon Mobil’s U.S. marine affiliate for two Liberty Class MT-115 aframax tankers. The 251 meter long, 115,000 deadweight ton tankers are used to transport Alaskan North Slope crude oil from Prince William Sound to the U.S. West Coast. The vessels are equipped with double hull protection, the latest navigation and communications equipment, and energy efficient engines. The vessels were delivered in 2014 and 2015.

MT-46-PRODUCT-TANKERS

MT-46 Product Tankers (14)

In 2005, the shipyard initiated a construction program of product tankers that continued until 2013. The MT-46 Veteran Class product tanker is 183 meters long with a 46,000 deadweight ton capacity. It can transport the equivalent of 14 million gallons of liquid product which can range from crude oil to chemicals. The vessels are ABS class. Ten of the MT-46 product tankers were delivered to American Shipping Company for bareboat charter to OSG. Two of the MT-46 tankers were delivered directly to OSG and later converted to be the first Jones Act shuttle tankers. The final two MT-46 product tankers were delivered to Crowley in 2012 and 2013.

CV2500 CONTAINER VESSELS

The fourth ship built at Hanwha Philly Shipyard was the Independence class CV2500 container ship. The vessel is 207 meters long and is capable of carrying 20‘, 40‘, and 45‘ containers. The deckhouse is located aft with accommodations for 23 persons. Designed for GL class and US flag, the vessel received the environmental passport notation. The vessel was delivered to Matson Navigation in 2006.

CV2600 Container Vessels (3)

The first three ships built at Hanwha Philly Shipyard were CV2600 container ships constructed for Matson Navigation. The Philadelphia Class CV2600 container ship was designed for the domestic U.S. and worldwide trade. The vessel is 217m long and have six hatched holds with cell guides for 20‘ and 40‘ containers. On the hatch covers and over the aft mooring deck, 20‘, 24‘, 40‘, 45‘, and 53‘ containers can be stowed. The vessels were ABS class and were delivered between 2003 and 2005.
